Changing your Baby's Diaper

There are many items to have in hand while attempting to change your baby's diaper. Before taking off the little one's dirty diaper be sure to have a couple tools in reach and then follow our diaper changing guide.

Supplies

• clean diapers
• warm water
• baby wash clothes or wipes
• diaper cream or ointment

Steps to Diaper Changing

• Wash your hands before changing your baby's diaper to be sure no bacteria will be transferred
• Make sure your baby is comfortably on her back on a changing table or soft towel
• Keep a clean, unfolded diaper off to the side
• Be prepared for accidents, your little one may wait to go to the bathroom as soon as you take off his diaper so make sure to have a cloth over his penis and another diaper under her bottom to cover all angles
• Be sure to wipe from front to back, especially for a baby girl so that no bacteria gets into the vagina
• Let the baby's bottom dry completely after wiping to help prevent diaper rash
• Any areas that are rashy or pink, make sure to apply diaper rash cream to prevent discomfort
• Place the clean diaper under your baby if it is not already in place by lifting his legs and be sure that his penis is pointing down if you have a boy. Pull the diaper up and fasten together
• Roll up the dirty diaper before throwing it away to keep the odor to a minimum
• Wash your hands again once you are finished with her diaper change
